Los Angeles: Sexy Cocktail Named After Mae West

I’ve recently decided to embark on a sexy cocktail tasting journey to keep myself (and my lover) warm & fuzzy during the long, cold nights of winter. First stop: Library Bar at the Roosevelt Hotel, where mixologist Matt Biancaniello created a tasty aphrodisiac cocktail especially for me using Spiced Saint Germain, Hendricks gin and heirloom tomato juice. It’s sophisticated, yet packs a punch – immediately I thought we should name it after sex symbol Mae West, and he liked the idea!

One of my favorite Old Hollywood characters, actress, writer & producer Mae West was as intelligent as she was scandalous. She lived (fast) up to 87 years old, a true hustler until the very end. In the 1930s, she used to live in the Penthouse of the Ravenswood apartment building, literally across the street from where I live right now. Sometimes I wonder how it would have been to run into her on Larchmont. Looking at the quotes below, I am pretty sure we would have gotten along brilliantly.

On life, and success…

“You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.”

“One and one is two, and two and two is four, and five will get you ten if you know how to work it.”

“Keep a diary, and someday it’ll keep you.”

On love and sex…

“Sex is emotion in motion.”

“The best way to hold a man is in your arms.”

“Love isn’t an emotion or an instinct – it’s an art.”

On her voluptuous image…

“I didn’t discover curves; I only uncovered them.”

“I never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number you get in a diamond.”

“It is better to be looked over than overlooked.”
