What does it mean to be a woman artist in 2018? How can we use our voices to create a community of activism and inclusion? How do we harness our art for progress and social change? These questions are big and messy and complicated, taking up quite a bit of real estate in any young creative’s mind, which is exactly why our friends over at Society6 are digging into them with Girls Art Now! a summit of female creatives from all corners of the art world exploring art, work, and community on Saturday, June 9th at Space 15 Twenty.
Born out of a desire to unpack the evolving and empowering roles of women artists in 2018, especially in response to cultural movements such as Nasty Woman and the Women’s March, the all day event will feature panel discussions and performances alongside an art exhibit showcasing the work of 50 women-identified Society 6 artists from around the world, all of which will be available for purchase with 100% of the proceeds going directly to Sexy Beast, an organization that raises money for Planned Parenthood LA though art and community.
Hosted by Nada Alic and Stephanie Dixon, the all-female extravaganza will feature 20+ badass creatives, activists, and entrepreneurs, including Live FAST favorites such as Whitney Bell, Kristen Liu-Wong, Penelope Gazin, Puno, Kenesha Sneed, Wesley Bird, Zarna Surti, and more, all bringing their unique personal perspective to panels that explore the multi-faceted aspects of what it means to be a creative woman, such as “Know Your Worth,” “The Power Of Community,” and “Creating Art at the End of the World: Activism in Women’s Art.” Stick around after the panels for sets from comedy queens Aparna Nancherla and Kate Berlant, a DJ set from Drum & Lace, and an intimate live performance by MUNA.
You won’t want to miss out on this day of thoughtful discussions, badass art, and inspiring female creative energy. Grab tickets now before they sell out – all proceeds from the ticket sales go straight to Sexy Beast for Planned Parenthood LA. Can’t wait?
