The 14th Factory is an immersive art experience currently taking place in downtown Los Angeles. Combining video, installation, sculpture, sound, and live paintings, the multiple multi-media installation is transformative in every sense of the word. Created by Hong Kong-based artist Simon Birch, collaborators include Cang Xin, Devin Liston, Dominique Fung, Doug Foster, Eric Hu, Gary Gunn, Gloria Yu, Li Wei, Lily Kwong, Movana Chen, Prodip Leung, Sara Tse, Scott Carthy, Wing Shya, and Yang Zhichao. The 14th Factory weaves together different facets of pop culture – from science fiction and punk music to graphic novels and film – with the underlying goal of critically examining the relationship between East and West.
Each spectator’s journey may be filmed for documentary and promotional purposes, adding to the overall experience of The 14th Factory. Upon completion of its film, The 14th Factory plans on opening up a newly created space to the public, although this future exhibition is contingent upon obtaining certain permits from the City of Los Angeles.
