Opening Night Out in NYC: Vanessa Prager “Voyeur” 1/26/16

Vanessa Prager hosted her New York debut solo show, Voyeur (with a little help from her friend, Fred Armisen) on Tuesday. It was definitely a success. Not only was it jam-packed with tastemakers, she also apparently sold every piece, according to her friend and actress Jaime King. Sixteen paintings by Prager are now on display through February 29 at The Hole on the Bowery in NYC.

Our human complexities – emotional, physical – it is in our faces that we reveal the most. Using her brush to create texture and depth, Vanessa reveals specific characteristics and human traits in the faces she’s showing. The paintings range from the small and intimate to the big and dynamic, each showing us a face that is just as interesting as any of ours. Spontaneity in every piece reflects the individuality we all possess.

Prager says she thought a lot about privacy while working on these paintings. Which is indicative especially in the works displayed through a tiny peephole. Peeking through holes, taking in a face, and then reflecting on the intimacy experienced – it is any Voyeur’s dream.
