For surf and ocean enthusiasts, January is the best time of the year to be in Hawaii. RVCA knows it, and every year they fly in their team of advocates from all over the world to catch some waves and do some bonding at their house on the North Shore of Oahu. This year, they are introducing surfer & model Imogen Caldwell, a diamond in the rough from Western Australia. We fell in love with her gamine attitude and beautiful smile instantly upon watching her Inspired By video piece, and couldn’t help but ask her a few more questions for an exclusive babe talk.
LF: Miss Caldwell, did you make a new year’s resolution?
IC: No, I’ve never made one. I set goals for myself a lot, and generally don’t stop until I’ve conquered them.
LF: Can you tell us the story about you getting onto the RVCA team?
IC: Nathan Webster pretty much plucked me fresh out of the desert and threw me straight on a plane to Hawaii. They backed every bit of my weird, isolated upbringing and accepted the fact that I was a bit different. I started modeling for RVCA straight away, my first real shoot being with another advocate – Sylve Coless.
LF: What is your fondest memory from your upbringing?
IC: Probably just hanging out with my family and the abundance of animals we seemed to accumulate. Kangaroos, dogs, sheep, snakes… you name it…we had it. Probably one of the fondest memories is just going out with my dad and fishing or diving for dinner.
LF: Tell us about your family and life at the Bluff.
IC: I’m one of 5, I have three brothers and one sister. My family have lived at the bluff for 11 or so years now. Life at the bluff was insane, I couldn’t have asked for a better upbringing.
LF: What’s your favorite, understated thing about Australia?
IC: The ability to go somewhere and feel like you’re the only person in the world.
LF: What are some of your favorite places your surfing/modeling career have taken you so far?
IC: The Mentawais and Hawaii.
LF: What inspires you? Do you have a favorite song/photo/painting that just brings you to tears and fills you with creativity?
IC: Any music usually fills me with the eagerness to get creative or be productive.
LF: What was the last big risk you took?
IC: Hmm, buying a husky – he’s very energetic.
LF: What goals do you have for the future of your career? What would you like to have accomplished in the next 10 years or so?
IC: I hope to accomplish big things this year, in and out of the water. You’ll have to wait and see!
LF: Who are some of the other young female surfing boundary-pushers on your radar?
IC: Coral Durant
LF: What’s on your playlist?
IC: Lilly Meola
LF: When are you happiest?
IC: When I’m in the North West of Aus.
LF: How FAST do you live?
IC: Fast enough!
