It is the feeling of suede brushing up against your calf. Smooth wood softly imprinting your thigh. Cotton sheets pressing against your lower back. French terry pressed tight against your shoulders. There is something both sensual and comforting about the different textures of home. When Sunday’s sun peeks through the curtains, you bask in your solitude. Sharing a bed with a lover is fine, of course, however there nothing quite like waking up alone and realizing you are still waking up in love. Isn’t falling in love really just another way we fall in love with ourselves?

Benjamin Askinas captures Monic in her Bushwick apartment. She is the type of woman that evokes curiosity – is she the painter or the muse? How does she define love? I imagine her voice to sound like smooth honey, complimenting her caramel skin. I picture her outlook on life to be bold and I firmly believe she throws her head back when she laughs. This editorial is exemplary of how mysterious feminine energy is – this mystery is effortlessly translated through Benjamin’s photographs.

Askinas understands the subtle formula required to evoke emotions through his images. This editorial reminds me that to accept the good, once must fully accept the core of their soul first, that love starts within, that mystery is irresistible. Above all, Askinas embodies the sensuality of comfort, the textures of home.
