No island getaway is complete without finding a home away from home. Tucked away in the north shore of Kauai we found our perfect escape: The Hanalei Surfboard House. With a combination of vintage decor and all of the essentials you need for a luxurious vacation, the owner – Simon Plotts – has created a unique place to unwind and fall in love with the island.
Arriving to the house we were greeted by a landscape filled with rare flowers and vintage surfboards. I could already tell that we were in for a serene treat and couldn’t wait to explore.
There are three private cottages: The Love Shack, Cowgirl Suite, and Elvis Suite, the last of which would be ours for the next few nights. The room was an old souls dream, filled with music memorabilia and a well curated collection of 1950’s photographs on the walls. Each cottage had its own private backyard equipped with a grill, perfect for romantic dinners or cocktails with friends.
The Hanalei Surfboard house makes sure each guest has an authentic Kauai experience by filling the room with the islands best local products. Waking up we brewed fresh coffee beans from Hanalei Bay Roasters and took a shower with local soaps made by Kauai Kunana Dairy.
A short walk away from the house we found ourselves in the heart of Hanalei Bay, an adorable beach town filled with lots of character and breathtaking scenery. After taking a dip in the ocean we stopped at the farmers market to stock up fresh fruit for morning smoothies.
Leaving the Hanalei Surfboard House I felt refreshed and rejuvenated. I will never forget this little gem in the middle of the pacific.
