Check In: Big Sur’s Ventana Inn & Spa

Whether you’re going on a solo retreat, on a road trip with a group of girlfriends or on a romantic getaway, Big Sur is sure to bring peace to your heart. It’s the perfect destination to truly disconnect from the daily hustle and enjoy some quiet time in the middle of nature. A mile away from Pfeiffer Beach, we’re checking into the Ventana Inn and Spa – a Joie de Vivre Hotel, a luxurious rustic resort surrounded by redwood, oak and bay laurel trees.

Ventana Inn is really a series of small luxury cabins, all of them featuring a private deck or patio with stunning forest, mountain, canyon or ocean views. The hotel is fairly pricey (smallest guest room starts at $400/night in low season), but you’re in for a royal treat.

Your fare includes complimentary daily guided property walks, yoga and pilates class, wine and cheese reception, access to swimming pools, Japanese hot baths and sauna as well as a small fitness facility. There is wifi all around the property, but we’d warmly recommend you just tuck your iPhone away in the safe, bring a good book outside and unwind.

Luxury and relaxation in the middle of nature.

The award-winning Restaurant at Ventana offers lunch and dinner on a magnificent sunny terrasse overlooking the Pacific. The menu is seasonal and features fresh produce from local farms mixed in with delicacies such as Sonoma foie gras, hand harvested diver scallops and Hawaiian blue prawn. Not boring!

What ultimately really sold us to this hotel is the extensive spa menu, which includes everything and anything your body & mind might need or crave – from reflexology to organic seaweed wrap to natural face lift to hot stone massage to astrology services. Might have to make this retreat last a whole week!
