Known for her love for pastels and arty prints, Karla Spetic channels the sixties with the help of Roy Lichtenstein’s classic comic strip. Keeping true to her signature style, Spetic’s AW12 “Heart” collection is jovial, modern, soft and pretty.
The clean lines of the military-inspired jackets and fifties circle skirts beautifully juxtapose the bold, overblown pop art. While the cuts may be simple, the cartoon cutouts and trompe l’oeil digital prints are too witty and chic to look away. The soft-hued shades of baby blue, blush and cool gray highlight and balance the vibrant splashes of canary yellow and scarlet. Love it!
The Sydney-based Croatian designer moved to Australia at age 10 with her family during the war. Though the change in country and culture rough on the young Spetic, she now embraces her two homes and reflects the duality of their cultures in her designs. Since launching her eponymous label in 2006, her feminine and minimalist designs have been praised by the fashion world. Have a look at her previous collections here.
