Art Crush: Kelly O’Connor

We’re totally crushing on these psychedelic collages by artist Kelly O’Connor. She picks vintage iconic photos – like the ones below of the Valley of the Dolls beauties, or the unforgettable face of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka – and she arranges colorful geometric patterns that bring the ’60s to mind, similar to the psychedelic fabrics of that time. Her work often incorporates classic Disney figures, focusing heavily in a lot of her pieces on Judy Garland’s Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. O’Connor explains her character choices as being “particularly interested in the duality of characters that represent American idealism, yet were often tragic figures in their actual lives. Much of my work is about exposing the reality behind these public façades.” She seems to have hit the nail on the head. Have a look:
