He/She/He by Jill Peters

Our first art crush of the week goes to photographer Jill Peters and her portraits are of the “sworn virgins” of northern Albania’s countryside: a handful of women who took a vow of celibacy and “live as men in a strident patriarchal society, remnants of a social order rooted in the past,” the artist explains. Look at these defiant faces!

The photos are part of a larger project that will ultimately become a full-length docu film titled He/She/He – the project has partially been funded on Kickstarter but still accepts donations. You can admire this intriguing piece of gender dysphoria at SCOPE booth B17. Thanks to pr maven Lizzz Kritzer for the tip!
