NYFW SS12: Dayglo Nation

Your old Lite Bright may be safely stashed away in your attic, but the retro toy is providing an unexpected dose of style inspiration this Spring. Instead of the muted neutral color palette of khakis, tans, and grays we’ve been seeing on the runways the past few seasons, the fashion pendulum has now swung in the opposite direction; namely, towards a full color wheel of neon hues.

We first spotted the trend early on with newer labels like Gerlan Jeans (which showed lime green denim) and Yigal Azrouel’s contemporary line Cut25 (in the form of colorblocked overalls and canary dresses), and then continued full speed ahead in the past few days with Rag & Bone’s electric blue blazer, Derek Lam’s tangerine jumpsuit, and Chris Benz’s show-stopping trousers.

Sure, it might take some extra confidence to pull of the statement look. But here’s the good thing: only one dayglo piece is necessary to get the full effect. And with so many new options to choose from, getting dressed in the morning has never been so easy.
