NYFW: Sounding Off

If it’s the allure of new clothes that initially draws us into New York Fashion Week, then it’s the music that keeps us going throughout the countless shows, presentations, and time spent hurrying up and waiting to see these collections. While many of the Spring/Summer ’12 trends weren’t anything groundbreaking – fashion is a revisitation of the past, after all – the show soundtracks definitely were. From a Biggie Smalls cameo at Cushnie et Ochs to Public Enemy at Karen Walker, the catwalks were full of odd music-fashion couples. We’ve picked our favorite runway tracks (paired with the designer looks) below. Sure, the collections won’t be available for several months. But the good thing is, unlike the clothes, this is music you can get immediately. Talk about instant gratification.

Karen Walker + Public Enemy, “Fight the Power”

Rebecca Minkoff + Foster the People, “Pumped Up Kicks”

Betsey Johnson + M.I.A., “XXXO”

Preen + Warpaint, “Undertow” (remix)

Lacoste+ Diplo, “Rhythm”

Monique Lhuillier + Creep, “Days”

Wes Gordon + Quadron, “Average Fruit”

Porter Grey + Best Coast, “Our Deal”
