Get a Perfectly Bronzed Goddess Summer Glow

Its tricky being a girl. Working out, eating right, mastering the art of flawless no-makeup makeup. And now that summer is upon us, we’ve got to prance around perfectly bronzed like its no big deal.

It takes weeks to build the perfect tan, however us skin-savvy ladies know better. Luckily for us, it’s easier than ever to cop a golden glow with this season’s must-haves:

Wednesday -Friendsday rolls around and your type-A girlfriend alerts you to Saturday’s pool party (don’t you love planners?). Although we’ve been California dreamin’ with summer issues since May, an even tan hasn’t been cultivated just yet. First thing’s first (post happy hour): time to exfoliate. Brazil Nut Body Scrub from The Body Shop is perfection. It eliminates dry patches and contains Brazillian nut oil to hydrate new skin after your shower. Make sure to pay extra attention to your knees, elbows and ankles. Self tanner loves to hide out the tough spots, and by the time your real friends call you out, it’ll be too late.

Since you’ve got time on your side, dilute L’Oreal Sublime Bronze Self Tanner with a hint of lotion sans mineral oil (Try Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion) and a few drops of Guerlain Terracotta Serum to extend your glow and leave skin extra supple. Repeat this process the next day to build an even glow. Don’t have social-coordinator as a BFF? Grab some Tanning Towelettes by Kate Sommerville for results in just a few hours. These guys give you great even coverage quickly, just remember to moisturize before and after the application.

Saturday is upon us. Time to pretend you ‘just wake up like that’ and attack the bronzer battle from both sides. Yes, we’re talking both powder and gel forms. Try a light dusting of Laura Mercier’s Mineral Powder SPF 15 in Warm Bronze followed by several strategic taps of Bobbi Brown’s Gel Bronzer in Golden Sun. The trick is to pat the high points of the face where the sun would naturally hit first. More J-Lo and less Li-Lo? Blend, blend and blend… and when you’re done blending, blend some more.

Ok, darling, you’re good to go. Remember these treatments last 4-7 days max, so be a good girl and moisturize at least twice a day. It’s also important to know when to fold ‘em. Assuming you’re hydration game is on point, the tan should fade evenly. But as soon as you see patchiness, time to hit the shower with your scrub for round two. I know, it’s not easy. But as a wise man once told me, “There’s no shortcut to anywhere worth going.” I’m pretty sure my Dad wasn’t talking about self tanner, but you feel me here.

Shoulders-back, butt-out. Enjoy the party. Perfect the, ‘What? I always sit this way” pose and sip that Skinny Girl Margarita, you deserve it. The best part about the well-executed self-tan routine? Won’t stain your man-friend’s sheets. We don’t do this for nothing, ladies!
